A Tribute To: Dodge

Dodge (Ico Dodge)
Loved by the Lewis Family

The first day I saw Dodge, he was on a walk with his foster, Ray.  I knew immediately that he was a special guy, and the way he looked over at me, I think we both knew it was meant to be.  We adopted our baby on September 15, 2003, at the age of almost 6.

He'd raced for 5 years and had been a winner in many of those races.  He'd been in 3 foster homes, so by the time he came to his forever home with us, he was very shy and reserved and spent the first 4 or 5 days upstairs in our room, on his bed.  After those first few weeks, I think he started to realize that we were going to be more than just another foster home for him.  In no time, his smiles got big, and his broken tail began to wag...he knew he was finally home!
In spite of being diagnosed with SLO and losing all of his nails in November of 2008, Dodge was still a puppy at heart.  He loved racing around the backyard, spending time with his doggie cousins, going for walks, bringing all his stuffies from the family room into the living room daily, going on camping trips, getting treats, and just hanging out with his family.  Oh, and he especially loved his visits with his 3rd fosters, Ray and Margena.  We always knew when they were in the neighborhood as Dodge would stand at the window and howl until we let him out to go say "hi".
We had to let our beautiful boy go to the Rainbow Bridge on February 9, 2009.  He's left a huge hole in all of our hearts and we dearly miss his romping and playing, his beautiful, soulful eyes, the way he used to watch me in the kitchen, and the way he used to "talk" to us.
We miss and love you dearly, Dodge!  You will always be in our hearts!
